Canada immigration, in its efforts to prevent crossing terrorists and illegal immigrants in their country, will share biometrics information with US, as announced. The joint effort of both countries will aid in the formation of a more suitable and effective way of tracking down suspected criminals that can conceal their identities when entering the country. Prior to this announcement, Canada has already joined with UK and Australia in a similar biometric sharing program.

The latest development relating to immigration speaks of the determination of US and Canada to protect its states against not only well-organized terrorist groups that may bring in danger to the country and its people, but also against fraudulent claims of people seeking refuge to the country. These attempts have radically increased in the past few years, therefore, there is a need to have a stronger means of evaluating each and every person pursuing asylum.

Sec. Janet Napolitano, US Homeland Security, expressed that “biometrics continue to be a powerful tool to prevent terrorists and criminals from crossing our shared border and preventing identity theft and asylum fraud.”

Citizens of both countries can expect that privacy issues will be highly regarded and protected in this kind of program.
