It is a common sight in every US Mexico border to have lines and lines of vehicles from Mexico entering the United States for many different reasons and purposes. In the past and up until now, US Mexico border serves as a way for illegal immigrants to access the United States with people putting together various acts in attempts to evade immigration officers.
Just yesterday, a new incident occurred in the busy San Ysidro border crossing where Tijuana and San Diego meets. US federal agents fired shots to three approaching vans overtaking other vehicles on the border crossing. The vans, with reported 70 illegal immigrants , tried to pass inspection patrol by going to the north bound lane. The illegal immigrants were later taken into custody by the US Customs and Border Patrol officers.
San Ysidro US Mexico border crossing was closed for a few hours after the incident. Many motorists were informed to turn back which caused a major traffic jam. The border was opened after a couple of hours following the shootout.
The actions of these people can be considered a desperate effort to distract the customs and border patrol officials and make their way to the US. Illegal immigrants resort to dangerous ways like this in exchange for what they believe is a better life in the US. With much stricter border patrol policies and inspections, illegal immigration through border crossing is effectively prevented.
