Issues on Hiring Illegal Immigrant or Undocumented Workers

Many illegal immigrants are enticed to enter the United States of America knowing that good paying jobs abound here. Coming from countries with low employment and low wage, it is really a strong reason for illegal immigrants to look for other opportunities outside their native country.

This is probably one of the major obstacles the current administration is faced today. The policy on preventing illegal immigrants are already in place, however, there are some loopholes which makes it easy for illegal immigrants to still stay in the country. To make matters worse, there are companies which, knowingly or unknowingly, hire illegal immigrants or undocumented workers. It could either be that the company does not have the proper procedure in processing work documents of its new employees. There are many cases wherein an applicant provides false social security number or false names which can be verified if the company is only following standard procedures in hiring process.

In some cases, companies are aware that their applicants do not have the necessary papers that make them eligible to work. Even so, these companies tolerate this and hire them under such false identities. Does this save the company from paying taxes? Perhaps. Does this make the company get away from not paying the minimum wage due to an employee? Most likely since illegal immigrants will grab on to whatever available job there is regardless if the pay is according to what the law states. Most of them are in desperate move to earn to sustain their daily living in the country.

With the campaign of punishing employers who commit hiring violation, sanctions are given to employers who are proven guilty of such violations. State law enforcement is strengthened to reduce and eventually eradicate companies that hire illegal immigrants. The Department of Homeland Security, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other government agencies are continuously and actively enforcing federal immigration laws to punish employers who hire illegal immigrants or undocumented workers.
