New Immigration Bill Left LGBT Out

If there is one thing that the new Immigration bill has missed to include, it would be the provision that supports the LGBT community.
The Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity Act (CIR ASAP) by Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-1III) and other co-sponsors have pointed out terms covering issues on family reunification, immigrant workers, borders and legalization path for illegal immigration. LGBT groups were anticipating an inclusion on the new immigration bill but were rather disappointed about not being part of it.
The foremost issue the LGBT community faces is that there is no provision for them to petition for their same-sex partners for an immigrant status. They too suffer from long years of separation from their families and there is still not a law that can help them deal with this as of the moment. On the other side, still having the trust for Rep. Gutierrez’s commitment in pushing for gay immigrant rights, many LGBT members still believe that he will support a future provision that will address their issues.
The comprehensive immigration reform needs to widen up its reach and give attention to many other issues that it may be leaving out. Such is the case of LGBT families that are hoping a light of hope will shine on them and end many of their unfortunate immigrant situations.
