Possible Increase on US Immigration Filing Fees Seen

It’s been a constant struggle for many immigrants to shoulder immigration filing fees since the beginning of time. Immigrants often joggle two or three jobs to make ends meet for their families. They could hardly save any amount for their immigration filing fees. Then, just recently, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) director has expressed a possible hike on filing fees due to financial reasons.

According to USCIS director, Alejandro Mayorkas, the agency is considering the increase of immigration filing fees after falling short of revenue this year. The agency is faced with a short of $282 million in revenue which is why other possible measures are being taken into regard and this is one of them.

Many immigrant groups have strongly expressed contest to the plan saying that, considering the effects of global recession, it’s an additional burden for many immigrants to carry on whatever filing fee increase that the government is planning to put forward. Struggling immigrants are busy finding ways to sustain their daily living and the dream to be naturalized is one of the things that keep them motivated to work and earn. Any further raise on immigration and citizenship applications clouds their ability to afford it and thus, their chance of being able to enjoy the benefits of a US citizen.
