Responsibilities After Becoming a US Citizen

Here is the list of some of the responsibilities expected from a US citizen as taken from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services official website, M-476. A Guide to Naturalization:

• Give up all prior allegiance to any other nation or sovereignty;

• Swear allegiance to the United States;

• Support and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States; and

• Serve the country when required.

A US citizen is also expected to perform his duty of being involved with the election process by registering and voting.

US citizenship requires a lot of other responsibilities. A US citizen shall always honor and take pride in his citizenship by following these guidelines and living every moment of his life recognizing these responsibilities.
