US Suspends Haiti Illegal Immigrant Deportation due to Quake

Deportation of illegal immigrants from Haiti has been temporarily stopped by Sec. Janet Napolitano of the Homeland Security office. This is in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake that hit the Caribbean island of Haiti. Based on reports, around 30,000 Haitians have pending deportation orders and are being scheduled to return to their country immediately. The response to delay the deportation is to protect these people from the obvious harm they will face in the midst of the search and rescue operations being done in Haiti.
The destructive intensity 7 earthquake that struck the island of Haiti on Tuesday left hundreds and thousands of Haitian people displaced, injured, missing and many were feared dead. At the center of this problem lies the supposed imminent deportation of Haitian nationals in the US.
In lieu of the delayed deportation, Congressional members are pressing the inclusion of Haiti under the TPS or Temporary Protected Status to Haiti immigrants seeking to live in the US. This is something that may or may not be discussed anytime soon but Haiti immigrants should just hope for the best outcome of this initiative.
